That is a great example of eco-modernism. In addition, they used rocks to fuel their Earth Engines. This would solve the problem of trying to find other sources of energy to move Earth. In addition, some of the food that was in the movie seemed to be in a package. So this could reduce waste and people could get most of their nutrients from a package of food. Human activity is reduced in the movie by most of the people living underground and with a limited amount of vehicles used above ground, this would reduce carbon monoxide emissions. According to the UNC.edu, this would “mitigate the amount of climate change” and thus, it would save Earth.
I think this is an interesting topic to talk about. When I read this, I thought about the game The Last of Us. This is a game that is based on a disease that causes a person to turn into a zombie. In addition, the disease can mutate and causes other types of zombies to form. The lesson I learned is that disease can cause chaos and can alter the lives of everyone. When I think of this I thought of COVID-19 and how the world had to change it operated. When it first came out, everyone was concerned about the side effects and if it could cause death. People were forced to stay indoors for a while and work from home using video chat. Also, we have seen countries where they have successfully contained the virus, while others have seen record numbers of cases daily. Another thing that I learned is that once we know there is a virus, we need to contain it before it can cause global destruction. If we do not contain it, then it will change everything. This was seen in The Last of Us when people were in hospitals dying from the virus and mutating into zombies. People in the game were shoplifting in stores to get supplies, weapons, etc. In the case of COVID-19, restaurants have been forced to close due to customers wanting to do drive-thru and takeout. People go online to do their shopping because it minimizes the risk of catching the virus. For COVID-19, people should wear masks, listen to scientists, and do research about the virus so you can stay informed in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Order takeout or cook from home, and for outdoor activity, go walking around your neighborhood or do workouts at home. As long as people can follow protocols given by the health departments we can defeat this virus together.
The theme that stood out to me the most in Black Panther was black unity. I like this theme because it displayed that if black people can come together, then we can build a legacy. I chose this song in particular because I felt like it could symbolize unification. In addition, this can be displayed in the music video where people are congregated and they are enjoying dancing with one another.
I chose to do “All of the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA. I chose to do this role because it reflects themes in Black Panther. The first verse that I decided to look at is “This may be the night that my dreams might let me know.” This is relatable in Black Panther when T’Challa reaches out to former Panthers on ruling Wakanda and how it can be a great Utopia for the world to follow.
The second verse I looked at is “All the stars are closer”. This can be interpreted in sci-fi when the protagonist relies on past memories of family or friends to help them to get past an issue. In addition, it can give the protagonist motivation to beat the antagonist because they may have killed the protagonist’s family/friend.
Lastly, is the verse “I recognize your false confidence and calculated promises in all of your conversation.” I could relate this in sci-fi to the game the Last of Us 2. There is a character named Abby who heard rumors about a vaccine that could prevent someone from turning into a zombie when bitten. She spends all of her time searching for it until she finds the place where the vaccine is at. When she cannot find it, it hurts her feelings because she believed that the vaccine was true and she had the dream of using it to help out others.
Another thing I would like to add is that the creative aspect of this assignment that I liked was recreating the news article to make it sound believable, but also shed light on the issue. In a sense, I thought it was interesting to see how Google could save itself by supporting small businesses to enhance innovation. What stood out to me the most was the fact that this reminded me of a similar situation with Amazon. There was an investigation from the White House that determined Amazon was heading towards a monopoly because their market share was estimated at “50% or more.” (CNBC). There have also been instances of monopolies in the late 1800s with John Rockefeller with the oil, and Andrew Carnegie with his steel company. I feel like huge companies could contribute to a dystopia by gaining a lot of power by making huge profits from their products and reducing innovation. This could reduce innovation by executives telling the workers what new products to work on. Since there is only one company that would work on new products, there would not be competition from others and this would lead to people buying that product. Lastly, Google advertisements would not be a bad idea, but it would become a problem if they were the only company making technology and ran advertisements on tech products because it would entice people to buy their products and thus, Google would become more powerful due to the money that they earned.

For Jacob Wells article revision, I like the creativity and thought behind it. It does sound very believable and good until it leads to a dystopia. There have been instances where companies monopolized their market. I do not think I would like Google to run advertisements on television and almost controlling every aspect of my life. In this dystopia, if Google did want to run a society by going to different countries and seeking out help and eventually controlling the government, is a smart move. In conclusion, this creates a society where citizens have little to no freedom and are controlled by Google.
I feel like regulations do need to be in place for new technologies. If there are not any regulations, then innovation would happen rapidly. I feel like this could cause technologies to have the potential to impact people’s lives. For example, there are autonomous robots that are used in war. These robots are programmed to kill people. But how will it tell the difference between an enemy, an ally, or an innocent person? Could it have the capability to bomb a city without a human telling it to? I wonder about these things because if they get into the wrong hands, then the destruction can be inevitable. We do need innovation to advance human life. As long as there are some regulations in place, I feel like innovation can happen as long the technology is being thoroughly investigated. But it is going to come down to how many regulations will need to be in place and who’s deciding on these rules?
