For this post, I read Darius’ post and have to agree that it is a scary thing to know that Dr. Fauci is receiving threats from Russia. Especially when it is something as huge as COVID-19. I hope he is able to go forth and be able to educate more on COVID instead of being told to hide in the shadows. As for Trump getting Covid, HA.
One of my favorite robot movies is chappie! Now this movie provokes a lot of thought throughout it and could even be seen as a possible future. In this movie, we see less ‘police death’ because they have this robot police to go in and do the jobs of police offers. That could be a major win as far as death goes but continuing on in the movie we meet chappie who has his own thoughts and ideas and is very impressionable. There’s even a scene in the movie where he steals items because those items were stolen from his “daddy.” My point of all this is that programming. Is. Everything. That’s the point I want to get out. That and test runs. While yes, they did want chappie to be his own ‘person’, was it worth the total mayhem?
So initially I couldn’t think of one sci-fi music video that would be perfect for this thread. The only thing that kept playing in my head was “Put on your Sunday clothes” from Wall-E but I didn’t want to include something that I am sure we have all heard. I chose this song more for the visual aspect of the video than anything else.
In the video, we see a scientist and an alien communicating through signs. They discovered one another using their telescopes and eventually fall in love. The human scientist devises a plan/ rocket to get himself to Jupiter. They both can be seen surrounded by technology and in their ‘lab’. As he is on his way to Jupiter he encounters asteroids as a problem.
The most prominent lyric heard:
“Jupiter you’re on my mind.” Originally, I assumed the alien was named Jupiter but realized it was the planet! Unless they are both just named Jupiter because why not?
Alternatively, I suggest also watching “Nerd rage” from the same band. Far more links to popular films, books, and comics! lol, A fair warning a bit weird. 🙂
Where in our history has regulation stopped… anything really? If we were to get regulations on technology, who would enforce it? The first answer I thought of was President Trump’s space force! Which I thought was funny!
I am all for innovation! That’s going to come with the good and the ugly. The good being advances in medical technology and the ugly being… well, killer robots that want to take over the world… Hopefully not!
The purple line is my initial walk and then pink is my continued walk. (The red marker is my house)
1) Most of the technologies I saw on my walk were streetlights, lawnmowers, and cars. Streetlights were built-in 1878, lawnmowers in 1830, and cars in 1885.
2) The streetlights illuminate the dark when I get home from work and my car is what gets me to and fro anywhere. In a sense, the lawnmower is important too as it keeps my lawn tidy but not the most important technology in my life.
3) I would try to convince people that we need these technologies by setting up test areas or hold trials and let people see for themselves.
4) Besides the street lamps, the time traveler would probably tell me everything else is outdated or in need of upgrades.
