[[Awake]]
(set: $Playername to "Jared")
(set: $Playerstatus to "Purgatory")
(go-to: "Awake")
(set: $Playercondition to "normal")You startle back to the world of the living after a suprisingly deep sleep, but realize something is wrong. You are not where you fell asleep last night, in fact you aren't even in your house. What do you do?
[[Take stock of surroundings]]
[[Stretch]](set: $Playercondition to "unstretched")
You decide that its far more important to look around rather than worry about stretching right now, and you are glad you did. You are in a large, flat forest that seems to stretch in every direction you look. I wonder how I get out of here? In front of you there is one path, winding into the forset, far past the distance which you can see. Do you follow the path or stay where you are?
Take the [[winding->Winding Path]] path.
Stay put and wait for [[Help]].
(set: $decision to "active unhealthy")(set: $Playercondition to "stretched")
It is always important to stretch after waking up, dont want to pull a muscle and get hurt. Now I should probably take [[stock->Look Around]] of my surroundings and figure out where I am.(if: $Playercondition is "stretched" or $decision is "active Healthy" or "active unhealthy") [After following the winding path for a while you still cannot see an end to it and are starting to get hungry. Immediatley after thinking this you come across what appears to be an apple tree just a bit further up the path. The closer you get to it however, the taller it seems. The nearest apple is at least twelve feet off the ground, and you suppose you might be able to climb the tree and reach it. But if you fall and hurt yourself you may never leave this forest. What do you do?]
(if: $decision is "waited healthy") [You decide that you cannot wait any longer and that you need to follow the path if you have any hope of getting out of here. Just as you are beginning to get worried about food you come across and apple tree. However the apple nearest to the ground is at least twelve feet up, and if you fell from that height you would surely be unable to get back up since you waited so long to get here. What do you do?]
(if: $decision is "waited unhealthy") [ Obviously no one is coming. You waited for what felt like days, and given that there seems to be no other choice you begin following the winding path. Just as you begin to wonder if you'll die of starvation you come across an apple tree! But the closest apple to you is twelve feet off the ground. You suppose that you could climb it, but if you were to fall you would never get back up again. Is it worth the risk?]
[[Climb->Climbed the tree]] the tree and risk injury
[[Skip->Skipped the tree]] the apple and hope for more food laterYou decided to take some time to stretch out before looking around, and you are glad you did. You are in a large, flat forest that seems to stretch in every direction you look. How do I get out of here? In front of you there is one winding path stretching far into the distance. Do you follow it or stay put?
Follow the [[winding->Winding Path]] path.
Stay put and hope for [[Help]].
(set: $decision to "active healthy")(if: $Playercondition is "stretched") [You decided to climb the tree and managed to retrive an apple without injury before [[climbing back down->Safely on the earth]], no doubt because you took the time to stretch and limber up this morning.]
(if: $Playercondition is "unstretched") [You began climbing the tree and were making good progress, but right before reaching the apple you feel a muscle pull in your arm and loose your grip falling to the [[ground-> Grounded]] below]
(if: $decision is "waited unhealthy") [ You begin climbing the tree, yet right before you can grab the apple you lose your grip on the tree and fall. When you hit the ground, you feel something break, and realize you can no longer feel your legs. Its impossible for you to even hope to get home now, maybe sleep is the only answer[[...->Home]]] (set: $Playerstatus to "dead")You decided not to take the risk of climbing the tree and continue on ignoring the growing pains in your belly. Not much longer later, you come across a small group of bushes with berries on them. You don't recognize the berries, but with the now nearly unignorable pains in your belly you need to make a choice here. Risk eating the berries, or hope to find a way out without starving.
[[Take the risk-> Ate the berries]], what could the berries possibly do to you?
It isn't worth it, Ill take my [[chances->Skipped the berries]] on the path.(set: $Hunger to "sated")
After making it safely back down the tree you chow down on the fresh apple you managed to get. It is suprisingly filling and you feel rejuvinated and ready to continue on your journey. But should you turn back and head to the clearing again, or keep following the path?
Mama didn't raise no quitter,I'm gonna [[press on->Continued down winding path]]!
Maybe I should [[explore another path->Returned to clearing]], after all this path seems to continue forever.You had a rough fall out of the tree but somehow mannaged to make it out without any other injuries than your pulled muscle. But without food you know you're in a pickle. Your belly is hurting extremely and at this point you begin to wonder how much time has passed and whether or not you may starve. What should you do?
Turn back and [[head back->Returned to clearing]] to the clearing you woke up in
Continue to [[press on->Continued down winding path]] and hope to make it out
(set: $Hunger to "unsated")(if: $Hunger is "sated")[Mama would be proud of you, after all you ain't a quitter. You decided to keep following the path, and after what feels like an eternity you [[wake up->Home]].] (set: $Playerstatus to "alive")
(if: $Hunger is "unsated") [Mama may not have raised a quiter, but without food in your belly and with a pulled muscle, you dont make it much farther before collapsing. You decide to take a short nap, after all maybe a nap is all you need to make the pain go away[[...->Home]]] (set: $Playerstatus to "dead")(if: $Hunger is "sated")[You begin walking back to the clearing, yet you can't help but feel like you should have reached it by now. After walking for so long and still being unable to find the clearing you feel exhausted and decide to lay down for a [[power nap->Home]]] (set: $playerstatus to "Purgatory")
(if: $Hunger is "unsated")[ You beign your walk back to the clearing but before you can make it any noticable distance you colapse, the hunger getting the better of you. You think as you begin to close your eyes that maybe a good rest will make the pain go away and you can search more later[[...->Home]]] (set: $Playerstatus to "dead")(if: $Playerstatus is "alive" ) [You are startled back to the world of the living, but this time you are in bed, exaclty where you fell asleep the other night. Was that all a fantastical dream you ask yourself as you leave your bed to get ready for the day. You don't notice before you walk out though that there is a single orange leaf tucked under the edge of your pillow.]
(if: $Playerstatus is "Purgatory") [It seems impossible, but there is no end to this forest, no matter which path you take you can never seem to find an exit. To make matters worse your injuries aren't healing but they aren't getting any worse either. Will you ever escape or are you stuck in some form of endless purgatory. Is this your new home?]
(if: $Playerstatus is "dead") [And thus ends your story. Who knows maybe there was another choice you could have made to save your life. These are your final thoughts before you let the eternal blackness envelope you and you find your final resting place.] You ate the berries, probably against better judgement. Yet after eating them you dont notice anything wrong. The only problem is that these berries are not very filling at all, and you don't think youll be able to walk far from these berries without starving. Maybe you'll never make it [[home->Home]] after all
(set: $Playerstatus to "Purgatory")You decided to skip the berries and continue walking, I mean there has to be more food here somewhere right? Maybe another apple tree with apples closer to the ground or something else you can eat will be up ahead. Or maybe you should try and make it back to the apple tree. With a sinking feeling in your gut though you realize you don't have enough time left to turn back before you starve. The time must be weird wherever you are, as you know three days have not passed since you woke up. You feel tired and out of energy, maybe a nap will help[[...->Home]]
(set: $Playerstatus to "dead")(if: $Playercondition is "stretched") [You decided to wait for help to arrive, after all someone had to have reported you missing right? Besides all those survival classes you took as a child told yu always stand a better chance at surviving being lost or stranded if you stayed put. Yet after what seems like days still no-one has arrived, and you are getting impatient, and worse yet hungry. Should you continue to [[stay put-> Stay forever]], or follow the [[winding path->Winding Path]] after all?] (set: $decision to "waited healthy")
(if: $Playercondition is "unstretched") [There is no reason not to wait it out and hope someone runs into you. Besides whatever happened to bring you here in the first place will cause a stir. Usually you have work in the morning, and if you dont show up your boss will obviously be concerned, right? Yet after waiting for what feels like days no one has arrived yet and you're getting desperate. You feel weak and are unsure you would even be able to follow the path for very long if you decided to follow it after all. So, what should you do, [[stay put-> Stay forever]] or [[follow the path->Winding Path]] after all?] (set: $decision to "waited unhealthy") (set: $Playercondition to "normal")You decided to stay put for even longer, Someone has to come eventually right? Before long you feel tired and decide to tak a nap. When you wake however the winding path has dissapered and now there is nothing but endless forest. Perhaps you were never meant to leve this forest, maybe this is your new [[home->Home]].
