I really enjoyed this story and the illusion of choice, espescially the ending. It was very good!
The evocation of the drudgery and weariness for people who live paycheck to paycheck really comes across with this story. The illusion of choice, as @timemender resonates so much. The use of the job auction as the anchor of the experience is really quite good, in a chilling way. Great use of a sci-fi setting to highlight an experience that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.
